What is Feng Shui?

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to use the laws of both Heaven (astronomy) and Earth (geography) to help one improve life by receiving positive qi. (CHI).

The term Feng Shui literally translates as “wind-water” in English. This is a cultural shorthand taken from the following passage of the Zangshu (Book of Burial) by Guo Pu of the Jin Dynasty:

Qi rides the wind and scatters, but is retained when encountering water.

Historically, Feng Shui was widely used to orient buildings—often spiritually significant structures such as tombs, but also dwellings and other structures—in a favorable manner. Depending on the particular style of Feng Shui being used, an auspicious site could be determined by reference to local features such as bodies of water, stars, or a compass. Feng shui was suppressed in China during the cultural revolution in the 1960s, but has since seen an increase in popularity, particularly in the United States.

Feng Shui and harmony

Feng Shui is based on using outside elements which we refer to as “the five elements’ and are water, earth, metal, fire and wood along with your environment and bringing them together to promote harmony and balance. You can create a harmonious environment in your home or office by using the elements and harmonious colors associated with certain areas of your home. Feng Shui considers the center of a home to be a valued space because that is where energy is drawn from and considered the ‘heart of the home.

For instance, if you bring in the color red which is the ‘fire energy’ into the heart of the home, you will be giving your family energetic support for happiness and harmony. that creates happiness by feeding the earth element here in the center of the home.

Feng Shui and prosperity

Money holds the energy of all those who have touched it and holds the energy of what people have decided is true about having and not having money. One truth about money is that money itself does not bring you happiness health or prosperity. There is an entire psychological factor that speaks to this, which I will cover in more detail in my November issue.

If we want to attract money and the energy of money, it is in our best interest to align with the energy of money flowing into our lives. We can do this by expressing our gratitude for what we already have and being open and ready to receive more and letting go of any beliefs that having money is bad.
Using Feng Shui to promote harmony and prosperity.

There are areas in your home where you can apply Feng Shui principles. By bringing in the outside elements and certain colors and displaying them in specific areas along with an intention we can create an environment to promote harmony and prosperity. For the best results, it is important that your energy be in alignment with your intentions. This works because as science is now proving, everything is energy. If this is true and everything including money and our thoughts is energy, where your energy goes your life will flow.
